World Heart Day Reminds us of the Importance of Diet for our Heart Health

The heart is one of the body’s most active organs. It can go unnoticed most of the time, but every day it beats more than 100,000 times on average, pumping nutrients and oxygen throughout the body in constant, silent activity. Cardiovascular diseases affect millions of people around the world each year. In order to raise awareness about its importance and how to prevent heart disease, the World Health Organization (WHO) celebrates World Heart Day every September 29th. A celebration that this year emphasizes the creation of healthy environments.

Among the recommendations to enjoy a healthy environment, the WHO names fresh quality fruits and vegetables such as those we produce here at Naturcharc. Consuming these foods on a regular basis is shown to have a protective effect on heart health, as also explained by the Spanish Heart Federation (FEN). Studies carried out on very large samples of the population have shown this link very clearly and directly.

Adequate physical activity, the choice of healthy fats and the reduction in salt consumption are other recommendations made by the WHO, which recalls that many of the deaths associated with cardiovascular diseases could be avoided by following these simple recommendations. The daily diet should include at least five servings of assorted fruits and vegetables. Thanks to the large catalog of organic products that we offer at Naturcharc, this requirement is easy to fulfill.

Important micronutrients

There are many nutrients that are present in fruits and vegetables and are highly recommended considering heart health, but one of the most prominent on this list is potassium. This mineral plays an important role in keeping blood pressure at healthy levels. The good news is that almost all plant products carry a high level of it, but aubergines and broccoli stand out in this regard.

The high presence of flavonoids and antioxidant substances is another of the strengths of plant foods. Both contribute to good cardiovascular health. A balanced diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, provides the necessary amounts of these nutrients. Vitamins, such as folic acid present in green leafy vegetables, also contribute to the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system, according to FEN.

Naturcharc products are an excellent way to ensure the intake of these nutrients. Since they are organically farmed, all our vegetables have been grown in a 100% natural way –  guaranteed! Taking care of their development and the harvesting process, so that they reach the table with all their nutrients and flavor is of great importance to us.
